iPhone Feature Wishlist

I love my iPhone 3G. I think it’s a great little device and I think I blows away almost every other mobile device out there. But I do have a few complaints, and since this is holiday season I’m putting out my iPhone feature wishlist.

Dear Apple, please fix the following concerns with the iPhone 3G so that I can become a bigger fanboy:

  1. No MMS
  2. Can’t forward SMS messages
  3. No copy / paste
  4. No autosensing of best available network — assumes that WiFi > 3G > EGDE regardless of connection quality or port blocking
  5. No way to send contact information in an SMS message
  6. iTunes music store only available over WiFi
  7. Can’t turn off screen during video playback (to save battery life, if only interested in the audio), audio stops too
  8. No audible turn-by-turn direction in GPS
  9. No automatic route recalculation in GPS
  10. Keyboard wont rotate for fast typing in most applications
  11. Can’t background third party music apps (they close)
  12. No flash player
  13. No stereo bluetooth (for music playback)
  14. Battery life sucks
  15. Missed call plus voicemail ends up as 2 misses on the badge (this makes sense but is more obnoxious than useful)
  16. In recent calls and SMS the direction (sent/received) of the last call / message is not displayed
  17. Cannot have both locally-synced calendars and Exchange calendars (!)
  18. Lack of a general use filesystem — would be nice to be able to use as mass storage device or to share files between applications
  19. Lack of general use applications (related to previous) — iPod (application) should be able to play audio files from the web, internet radio URLs, etc
  20. No tethering — to utilize 3G / EDGE connection from another computer
  21. Camera can’t do macro (though the Griffin Clarifi is a very nice workaround)
  22. Video recording
  23. Basic categorization for taken photos

Thanks for the phone,

Cameron

P.S. Well played.
